I don't like how my mountain lines are visible through the trees, but there's only so much one can do with a mouse!
Well, today has been pretty stressful and not much fun. Between readying ourselves for the new school year, which starts tomorrow, and dealing with my sister, her kid, and my mom visiting, there has been nothing but chaos. In fact, I'm pretty ready for this Monday to be over so I never have to think about it again.
To give you some idea of what we've dealt with today, here's the side of my mother's conversation with my father this afternoon:
"I'd appreciate it if you didn't bring your freaky ass girlfriend around my grandchildren....No, she doesn't want her here....I don't care. Don't bring your whore around my grandchildren again, asshole."
Delightful, no?
Well, we didn't go to Boston - blah - I'm going to check out everyone's review, though - I'm sure it was a fun time.
I received an email from eWeek about Vista not getting accepted by Enterprise users (and everyone else). What caught my eye immediately were the comments. Tech people are so freaking relentless:
Here was their reply:

(They are my friends now!) Thanks, JB!
I had a really good customer service interaction with Amazon last week. I bought an MP3 and it did not download. They have a link on their site that says something like "Call You Now". I put in my number and the phone rang like two seconds later. The CS person reset my link so I could re-download the song. That's cool beans.
We went to see this over the weekend for Nathan's birthday:
It was great.was really good. I'd buy it and watch it again. There were a couple of songs from Hello Dolly, here is one of them:
Michael Crawford - wow!
We went fishing over the weekend. The tourists were the real show:
NJ Woman "OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! I CAUGHT A FISH!!! OMG!"
NJ Woman "GET THE CAMERA!"
I can't emphasize how loud this came out. Try envisioning that in 72 point type with a few extra "!"'s on the end.
There was also this old guy who caught a crab and made a dive for it - sadly, without even the least attempt to block his fall. I'll leave the visuals up to Jamie on that one.
We watched that McCain/Obama political forum thingy - does anyone else feel like McCain knew the questions ahead of time?
I took Friday off and we tore into the garage attached studio and took everything out of it - Clean Sweep style, tarp and all. It was quite refreshing. Nathan wants to make it into a workshop and I'm all for it. We'll get everything in place this week and I'll post a picture. I'm sure we'll start making something ridiculous and sell in on Etsy.
All this and then President Musharraf resigned.
I think that's everything (for me) so far.
I probably won't be able to blog (outside of possibly some moblogging) as we get into the middle of this week, so thought I'd write an update this morning. Should be fully back online again sometime next week.
Here's the latest:
Soon-to-be home: The sellers agreed to repair all but one item we asked for, so that is a blessing. The termite/moisture inspection is on Wednesday afternoon. We are still slated to move in on Saturday (with a walk-thru on Friday). Closing has been moved up to Sept. 19th at 10 AM.
Current home: The home inspection here was Thursday night. We still haven't heard a word back from the buyer, which I admit does make me nervous! Not sure if they've scheduled the termite/moisture for here yet.
This week's crazy schedule: Rob and I are finishing up at our current jobs today and tomorrow. On Wednesday, the movers come to pack us up. They load the truck on Thursday. We will probably crash somewhere in the area Thursday night so we can finalize any cleaning on Friday morning, then drive down to the new place for our walk-thru at 5 PM. Then our stuff is delivered on Saturday. And we begin our new jobs on Monday! (Not to mention needing to finish enrolling the kiddos in their new schools that week...)
Pray for us over these days as we set aside the things the movers won't take, continue to purge a few things here and there, and finish cleaning the house once everything is moved. Also pray that everything goes smoothly with the packing, loading, transport, and delivery of our household goods.
Again, I thank you immensely for all of the prayers and encouragement!
The birthday went very well. I was a little worried because we are now so far away from her friends so we weren't able to go all out with a party this year. But she was perfectly content with her small family gathering and her presents. And that cake was like Christmas to her.
I'm tired. My back hurts. But my weekend was wonderful.
A month or two ago, as we were preparing the house for sale, I was making frequent trips to Salvation Army with clothes, household goods, and the like. On one trip, I took an HP color photo printer that we'd only used once about 5 years ago. It was packed in the original box and sealed up in the move to this home three years ago.
Or so I thought....
Yesterday, I was working on purging more items in one of our storage areas. Digging through a rather large box full of half used legal pads, old mail, and a potpourri of office-type items, I finally made it to the bottom, only to find...
(You know where this is going, right?)
The HP photo printer.
"Honey, look in this box," I encouraged. Rob gazed at the contents. We looked at each other.
"Remember how I took this printer in it's original box to the Salvation Army a month or two ago?"
We looked at the printer. We look at each other.
Uh oh.
"I wonder what was actually in that printer box...?"
We probably don't want to know.
Moving Lesson #858: always open the sealed boxes, whether you think you know what's in there or not.
When Madelyn turned 4 almost three years ago, she was watching Pirates of the Caribbean and singing Rolling Stones songs. She didn't want anything girly and fru fru. She insisted on black and pink cupcakes and crafts because anything else would have just been too silly. She's my ultimate tomboy.
Evie is turning 4 tomorrow. I took her to pick out a cake last week and she decided to go all girl on me. I shouldn't be surprised. She's my little princess of a child. Everything is pastel and butterflies for this kid. So this is her cake for tomorrow:
She's going to love it.
I'm mostly looking forward to hacking this thing up with a knife.
As promised, here is the reflection pool I get to look at all year long.
Tis beautiful, non?
Yesterday went very well. I'm overwhelmed and nervous but also really excited.
And one thing I can't get enough of? In that first picture you can see the corner of a white building. That's the library. Located inside is a coffee bar and sushi bar. There is a God and He loves me!
