Hey peeps! I'm going on staycation* til after Labor Day!
I want to see what it's like when I look up from the monitor for more than just a day or two. I want to know what it's like to have a clean house. I want to have time to have sushi and get my hair done and get the kid ready for the school year and get things ready for fall in general. My days of heading off to Mexico or Hawaii have obviously been tabled for a while, so for now, these plans I have are exciting. Or at least, something I'm looking forward to. Exciting is a bit strong. ;)
I'll probably check in via my itouch once in a while... 'cause I'm nosy and I like to know what's going on with all you wild and crazy folk.
Apparently my vacation is just in time for the latest NW rain/windstorm. Supposedly a doozy. Good thing I don't melt.
*That's another new word I learned from my Vox hoodies.Y'all are so creative. :)
I know I've said this before, but seriously, I mean it this time. Best Chick Tract Ever
FUCK! VAMPIRES! RUN!
Here's a question, though. Is Don into vampirism, like, bloodsucking, or is he just a big fan of Twilight?
"Don, get on stage it's time to ROCK."
"But I have to know what happens to Edward and Bella!"
Last night I dreamt there was an event where Sumo wrestler-type men balanced as many individual plates and other dishes all over their bodies, while a three-man band of other sumo wrestler-types played traditional chinese folk music.
And the only part I found odd was that each contender had to bring his own band.
Best Oatmeal Cookies EVER
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
1 cup dark brown sugar
1 cup peanut butter (use raw unsalted if you can find it- Jiff makes this recipe WAY too sweet)
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla (I did two, I really like vanilla)
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 dash cinnamon
1 1/2 cup flour
1 2/3 cup oatmeal
Turn on mixer to a lot or medium speed and add all ingredients in the order they appear, pausing between each to allow them to blend.
Drop by large spoonfuls on to a cookie sheet and bake at 350 for 8 minutes, or until peaks look slightly browned. DO NOT OVER BAKE, or they will become very dry and grainy.
Possible ways to make this recipe even slightly more awesome:
Add chocolate chips (one bag)
Or mini peanut butter cups
Or broken up big peanut butter cups
Or top with a kiss.
ENJOY!

I don't like how my mountain lines are visible through the trees, but there's only so much one can do with a mouse!
Well, today has been pretty stressful and not much fun. Between readying ourselves for the new school year, which starts tomorrow, and dealing with my sister, her kid, and my mom visiting, there has been nothing but chaos. In fact, I'm pretty ready for this Monday to be over so I never have to think about it again.
To give you some idea of what we've dealt with today, here's the side of my mother's conversation with my father this afternoon:
"I'd appreciate it if you didn't bring your freaky ass girlfriend around my grandchildren....No, she doesn't want her here....I don't care. Don't bring your whore around my grandchildren again, asshole."
Delightful, no?
Two new bracelets, made during the garage sale. I just used what odds and ends I had in my kit, but I'm rather happy with both of them.
